Special education vocational college

Kiipula Vocational College is a national vocational special education school. Our education is meant for students who require special support. We teach in Finnish.

Our students are as a rule young (16–21), but adults can also apply for our education programmes. Our students have a wide range of needs related to guidance and support based on their learning difficulties, disability and/or illness.

Our school offers 13 different vocational upper secondary qualifications (duration 3 years):

  • Agriculture
  • Business & administration
  • Cleaning and property maintenance
  • Engineering, manufacturing and construction
  • Forestry
  • Gardening
  • Hair and beauty services
  • Information and communication technology
  • Logistics
  • Restaurant and catering
  • Social and health care
  • Tourism
  • Vehicle sector

In addition to vocational qualifications, we also organise preparatory education.

  • Preparatory education for programmes leading to an upper secondary qualification (TUVA)
  • Preparatory education for work and independent living (TELMA)

Education is held in many localities in southern Finland.

In practice, the special education takes place in small groups, thus utilising the pedagogy of learning by doing. The studies are tailored to the needs and capabilities of the students. The most important thing is to see the students as an individuals and to recognise their strengths.

Our most important goal is that our students get employed. Kiipula works actively in cooperation with the working life. Our aim is to share expertise with the employers and to have an active dialog in order to exchange information. The students’ studies include many on-the-job learning periods in real workplaces.
